If the nation is able to strengthen its “wall of immunity” through vaccination, specifically the provision of booster doses, a health official said Friday that some of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) limitations might be eliminated.

In a media forum, Maria Rosario Vergeire, the Department of Health’s officer-in-charge, stated: “This also came from the President himself. He said he can loosen restrictions, but there is a condition, the vaccination rate must grow. We must administer the first booster shot to at least 80% of the eligible population in order to increase the wall of immunity.

Vergeire estimated that the first booster dose is required for roughly 47 million people.

According to DOH data as of August 11, more than 16.8 million people had received their first booster dose and about 1.7 million had received their second.

Vergeire stated that Filipinos must have a “change in perspective,” which involves concentrating their attention on the amount of severe and critical cases, deaths, and health care utilization rate. Vergeire cited that Covid-19 is deemed to remain.

In addition to government actions, she continued, “people must know how to defend themselves. Kailangan, ang tao, alam nila kung paano proteksyunan ang kanilang sarili.”

Despite an average daily increase of 4,025 Covid-19 infections and a positive rate of 18.5%, both greater than the previous week, the nation continues to be classified as low-risk.
