DOT on US advisory: Precautions are taken to ensure travel to PH is secure

On Tuesday night, the Department of Tourism (DOT) informed tourists that precautions had been taken to guarantee their safety while traveling to various locations in the Philippines.

The announcement followed the CDC’s (Centers for Illness Control and Prevention) level 3 alert for “high-level coronavirus disease 2019” in the United States (Covid-19).

In an effort to calm concerns, the DOT pointed out that more than half of the approximately 235 locations the CDC examined were likewise below the specified level.

“The global pandemic continues to present difficulties for the travel and tourism industry, but travelers can be confident that the Philippine government is working to maintain minimum public health and safety standards, along with the precautions taken by our partners in the private and public sectors. As a result, even during the Covid-19 pandemic, visitors to any of our 7,641 islands can do so in safety, according to Christina Garcia Frasco, the secretary of tourism.

To find a balance between safety and travel in the new normal, “We are confident in the safeguards and rules that we have adopted.”

The Philippines, in contrast to many other western nations, has a rigorous policy regarding the use of face masks to stop the virus from spreading.

As of August 15, 2022, more than 72 million Filipinos had received all of their vaccinations.

Additionally, according to the government, there is a significant discrepancy between the Covid-19 positive rate in the Philippines, which averages 4,001 daily, and the US, which as of August 16, had 13,609 new instances in the previous 24 hours.

The DOT stated that the nation “gives more weight to the health care utilization rate rather than the number of new cases,” citing the Department of Health.

In the country, 838 of the 2,887 critical care unit beds and around 8,165 of the 26,266 non-ICU beds, or 29.3 percent and 31.9 percent, respectively, are in use.

“What we’ve discovered with the arrival of COVID-19 is that we can’t keep letting our lives and vacation plans be badly impacted by our fear of it. This pandemic has caused so many losses, according to Frasco.

In order to preserve lives as well as the livelihoods of those who depend on tourism, we need to change our viewpoint and learn how to deal with this virus in a sensible, pragmatic, and health-protocol-aware way.
