As weather conditions have improved following Super Typhoon Karding, all nine Department of Public Works and Highways’ district engineering offices (DEOs) in the National Capital Region (DPWH-NCR) have begun cleaning and clearing activities.

Early maintenance tasks like clearing debris and fallen trees from culverts, transporting and clearing spoils, and mending potholes are being carried out across the region, according to a Facebook post by the DPWH-NCR.

As of 6 a.m. on Monday, all highways in the region are in low-lying regions, such as Roxas Boulevard and Espaa Boulevard in Manila, Marikina, and Quezon City, are now passable, according to reports from the ground.

Only two roads in Valenzuela, Gov. T. Santiago and G. Lazaro streets were affected by pavement-deep flooding.

Maintenance workers were sent out as soon as the water level in the Marikina River dropped to 16.3 meters to remove debris and clean the adjacent region.

The DEOs’ maintenance team was also ready to respond to flooding by clearing fallen trees from national roads and clogged drainage systems as early as last weekend.

Director of DPWH-NCR Nomer Abel Canlas instructed DEOs to replace any uprooted, chopped, and damaged trees along the center islands right now.
