Makati would become a prototype center for resilience under Mayor Binay.

Mayor Abby Binay’s top priority is making Makati City a role model for other local governments in creating catastrophe risk reduction and climate action plans.

She claimed Makati might emerge as Southeast Asia’s first hub for resilience.

Makati City was been selected to serve as the region’s leader for the next four years by CityNet, the largest organization of urban stakeholders devoted to sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region.

Before 2018, Makati served as the First Vice President of the City and the Second Vice President in 2010.

Binay said in her tabloid column #ProudMakatizen, “Pinalad ang Makati na muling mahalal bilang (Makati is also blessed to have been voted as the) Vice President ng (of the) CityNet para sa taong (for the years) 2023-2026, kasama ang lungsod ng (alongside the city of) Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.”

The National Cluster President of CityNet in the Philippines is Makati City.

Binay said that Makati City’s successes were due to its regular presentation of resilient and sustainable plans in international forums and seminars.

We are also assisting other cities with the creation of their own programs and plans so that they can be ready for emergencies and disasters, said Binay. “Tumutulong din tayo sa ibang mga lungsod para makapagsimula rin silang gumawa ng sarili nilang mga programa at plano para maging handa sa mga (We are also helping other cities with this.

She expressed her gratitude to CityNet for placing its faith in Makati to lead and manage the organization and is committed to keeping assisting other local governments in being disaster-prepared, sustainable, and resilient.

With the backing of the UN, CityNet was founded in 1987 and has since amassed a network of 110 cities, 173 municipalities, non-governmental organizations, for-profit businesses, and research facilities.

A potential source of a big magnitude earthquake in the National Capital Region is situated on Makati’s eastern side, a member of the Valley Fault System.

Seven flood-prone communities are found in the western section, while six villages are in high-risk zones.

The Makati Local Disaster Coordinating Council, a specialized task force for coordinating disaster-reduction policies and strategies across the national, regional, and city levels, is the leading agency in disaster response.
