OCTA reports an 18.5% NCR Covid-19 positive rate.
According to the OCTA Research Group, the positivity rate—the percentage of patients who tested positive for Covid-19—in the National Capital Region (NCR) rose from 15.7 percent last week to 18.5 percent as of September 24.
Fellow OCTA Research Group member Dr. Guido David tweeted, “This has already surpassed the positive rate of 17.5 percent on August 5, 2022.”
The number of people a case potentially infects, or the NCR, climbed from 1.21 on September 5 to 1.30 on September 22.
According to data from the DOH, 1,600 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the NCR on September 25, 2022. According to David, the peak of 1502 new instances reported on August 7, 2022, was higher than this.
By September 25, the NCR’s weekly growth rate had risen to 25%, nearly twice as high as the 13% rate recorded on September 18.
Utilization of healthcare services in the area was only 36% in Covid-19.
Dr. Rontgene Solante, an expert in infectious diseases, stated at a televised public briefing that the increasing mobility in the area and people’s lax attitude toward following safety precautions are to blame for the surge in cases.
“Those who are hospitalized in hospitals are the old population ages 65 and above, partially vaccinated, and vaccinated with comorbidities,” he said. “Ang na-admit lang ‘yung mga elderly population, ‘yung mga may edad na 65 pataas, hindi pa masyadong nabakunahan, meron ding nabakunahan na at ‘
He continued, {omicron subvariants only induce minor symptoms in people who are not at risk.
