This year’s Cancer Assistance Fund is open through December 31. DBM
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) stated on Monday that the national government’s PHP529.2 million Cancer Assistance Fund (CAF) is still available for usage through December 31 of this year.
This happened after a joint memo circular (JMC) from the DBM and the Department of Health (DOH) was published, prescribing the Implementing Guidelines for the fund.
By the adoption of the cash-based budgeting system, and subject to applicable general and special provisions under the FY [fiscal year] 2022 [General Appropriations Act] and other current budgetary guidelines issued by the DBM, the said fund shall be available for utilization until December 31, 2023, the DBM stated in a statement.
The DBM claims that the PHP529.2 million provision is based on Special Provisions (SP) No. 13 of the DOH budget under the 2022 GAA, which, among other things, stipulates that the JMC must be issued before the amount may be used.
Under Republic Act No. 11215, also known as the National Integrated Cancer Control Act, which aims to offer integrated and comprehensive assistance for cancer treatment and management, the CAF is a mechanism.
It intends to augment and supplement current financial assistance systems that are only available to cancer patients, cancer survivors, and those living with cancer.
In accordance with the circular, the CAF will also pay for outpatient and inpatient cancer control services, including but not limited to diagnostic tests, therapeutic treatments, and additional cancer medications required for treating and managing cancer and its connected components.
“The allocated budget for the cancer assistance fund would be a huge help for our fellow Filipinos, which they can use to access various DOH hospital access sites and other health facilities in the country,” said DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman. “Making tulong po para sa ating mga kababayan itong nakalaang pondo for cancer assistance na maaari na pong magamit sa mga DOH hospital access sites
Since cancer is one of Filipinos’ top causes of illness and mortality, she continued, “We expect that it will lessen the burden of many cancer sufferers.”
Before this, Maria Rosario Vergeire, the DOH officer in charge, stated that the CAF would be distributed to various cancer hubs or cancer care clinics across the country to provide cancer patients with tests, drugs, treatment, and other necessities.
