PH appreciates working with the EU on transportation initiatives
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) official commended the EU’s project partners’ contributions to the construction of several transportation infrastructure projects.
Jaime Bautista, the secretary of the Department of Transportation, praised the EU’s commitment to the economic development of the Philippines and various infrastructure projects spanning the four DOTr sectors of aviation, maritime, rail, and road transport.
In a Friday Facebook post, Bautista said, “The DOTr will use its partnerships with European government, development partners, contractors, and consultants, to grow its European-supported pipeline of transport infrastructure projects.”
The New Manila International Airport in Bulacan and the fleet extension and modernization of the Philippine Coast Guard are two examples of these EU partner projects.
The North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Project, the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) Rehabilitation Project, the Metro Rail Transit Line 4 (MRT-4) Project, and the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension Project are all supported by the EU.
Other initiatives include, among others, the nation’s first urban cable car project, the EDSA Busway Project, and the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit Project.
“President Ferdinand R. Marcos said business is now welcome in the Philippines. Now that this has been accomplished, we are prepared to work with European organizations and financial institutions to further our transportation initiatives,” he said.
In particular, he emphasized the value of collaboration and cooperation with the corporate sector.
He said that this is how we can advance in our efforts to improve our bilateral relationships and deliver accessible, safe, and affordable transportation.
To attract private sector collaborations on Thursday, Bautista also showcased expensive infrastructure projects at the 48th Philippine Business Conference and Expo at the Manila Hotel.
After running into “restricted budget allocation” from the federal government, he said that public-private partnerships would benefit the DOTr in completing ongoing and planned transportation projects.
