The House provides P5-M in cash relief to Navotas fire victims.
Tobias “Toby” Tiangco, a representative from the Navotas Lone District, was given PHP5 million in cash by Speaker Martin Romualdez on Tuesday to aid the victims of the fire in Navotas.
At his birthday party on Monday night, Romualdez solicited help for his Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Initiative of the House, and he was successful in raising almost PHP71 million in cash and pledges.
Severe Tropical Storm Paeng sufferers will receive the remaining sum.
The fire that raged for nearly six hours and reached the fifth alarm in Navotas on Monday night resulted in at least five fatalities and two injuries.
Romualdez informed Tiangco, “Please convey my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident and my regrets for those whose homes and properties were destroyed to the ground.
The victims of the fire also received 500 bags of rice in addition to financial aid.
Romualdez remarked, “I genuinely hope that this act of kindness that we performed via the help of our friends and colleagues would improve their situation.
Romualdez started a fund drive and relief efforts after Paeng’s disaster, which led to catastrophic landslides and significant flooding, to help those in need.
The House collected PHP49.2 million in monetary donations, pledges, and in-kind donations from private organizations for the storm victims, including blankets, food, and toiletries.
Romualdez praised everyone who came forward in response to his appeal for assistance for people harmed by recent natural catastrophes and fires throughout the nation.
In his birthday wishes for Romualdez, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. congratulated the Speaker and his fellow lawmakers for their dedication and commitment, which was seen in their quick response to his administration’s top priorities.
I really thank him and talagang nagagawa niya ang trabaho kahit mahirap (I have a strong will, I am greatly confident because I know the Speaker is my partner. I really thank him at talagang nagawa niya ang trabaho kahit mahirap), said Marcos. “Ako malakas ang loob ko, malaki ang kumpyans
