In spite of rumors, senators back Zubiri’s administration

On Wednesday, senators backed Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and dispelled rumors that he “almost lost” his position because Malacanang was dissatisfied with his leadership as a result of low productivity.

A low output was anticipated at the beginning of the parliamentarians’ mandates, but Senator Sonny Angara stated it is “too early to cast judgment” because he anticipates an improvement in output during Zubiri’s second year in office.

Angara predicted that the committees’ output would improve in the second year as a result of their increased productivity and the appearance of committee reports and statutes.

“Senator Zubiri, in my opinion, is a very good leaderโ€ฆ It is far too early to condemn him, so give him a chance, Angara said in a statement to the Senate reporters.

While committee reports typically happen from January to the end of the First Ordinary Session, Senate hearings from June to October 2022 are a combination of budget discussions and investigations.

Zubiri defended the Senate’s work on Wednesday, calling the news article “tabloid gossip, nonsense,” and the product of someone’s boredom. He insisted that the Senate was a different institution and not a “rubber stamp.”

“First and foremost, all (senators) meticulously study each and every item as we completely discuss these to better every draft legislation,” the senators said. We are not a rubber stamp institution, please respect that. There hasn’t been any discussion of leadership changes, and no one has issued any cautions over the Senate’s poor performance, according to a statement released by Zubiri on Wednesday.

Of the 24 senators, 19 supported Zubiri’s election.

If his colleagues no longer support him, he indicated he will resign.

Senator JV Ejercito stated, “I, along with the majority of senators, are content and happy with the leadership of Senate President Zubiri.

An online report on March 7 said that Zubiri would be replaced due to his “lack of productivity” and his tardy approval of proposals that Malacanang had prioritized.

“This news report is plainly a desperate and sad endeavor to ruin not only the reputation of Senate President Migz Zubiri but to destabilize the integrity of the Senate as an institution,” stated Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva.

“This news report is completely falseโ€ฆ Let’s concentrate on doing our job, which is to pass legislation that benefits our citizens the most. Let’s not squander any time on pointless, fanciful ideas that do not improve lives at this vital juncture in our country’s history, Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda remarked.

Senator Win Gatchalian stated that Zubiri “enjoys the full faith and backing of the majority”.

Sen. Grace Poe remarked, “Senator Migz is one of the most progressive, diligent, and unifying Senate Presidentsโ€ฆ extremely strong support from his colleagues.
