Alaknib drills aid the Philippine Army’s transition to territorial defense
Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., commander of the Philippine Army (PA), stated that the American-led version of Exercise “Salaknib” this year will significantly support the PA’s continuing transition from internal to territorial defense.
In a statement released on Tuesday, he emphasized the importance and benefit of bilateral training initiatives like “Salaknib,” which is being held from March 13 to April 4 with the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC).
In the interest of Indo-Pacific security and wider security regional connectedness, there is actually much more that we can accomplish together and much more that we can learn from one another, according to Brawner.
An Army-to-Army training program known as “Salaknib” is run by USARPAC and the PA.
Monday saw the “Salaknib” premiere celebrations at Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija.
Both Brawer and Lt. Gen. Xavier T. Brunson, commander of the US Army Corps, were present.
In his statement at the exercise’s official launch, the PA chief stated that some 3,000 troops would engage in a variety of exercises over the coming weeks that would reflect on both current situations and potential futures.
The ability to collaborate within the constantly shifting dynamics of international events and Indo-Pacific issues is enhanced by our shared learning, he continued.
In the upcoming weeks, some 3,000 soldiers from the USARPAC’s 25th Infantry Division and the PA’s 5th Infantry Division, 7th Infantry Division, and 1st Brigade Combat Team will train together in a variety of military actions.
In contrast, Brunson stated in his remarks that “Salaknib” aims to boost defense cooperation between the two countries by enhancing the human interoperability of both forces.
The improvement of the “already-strong human interoperability between our troops” will be another goal of the exercise, he continued.
“Bilateral exercises will be conducted by the training audience in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija, and other locations in Central and Northern Luzon. Exercise “Balikatan,” which is set for April 2023, will be preceded by “Salaknib’s” first phase, while “Salaknib’s” second phase is planned for the third quarter of 2023 “Col. Xerxes Trinidad, an army spokesman, stated.
An annual Army-to-Army exercise called “Salaknib” (shield in Ilocano) aims to improve the interoperability of US and Filipino forces.
