DND chairman asks reservist group for assistance in strengthening ROTC law
Carlito Galvez Jr., the head of the Department of National Defense (DND), has asked the Reserve Officers Legion of the Philippines (ROLP) for help in enhancing the proposed Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC), which has now made it to the Senate plenary.
“I respectfully need your support once more in helping us push for the ROTC in order to enhance it through legislation. The revival of mandatory ROTC and its replacement, the National Service Training Program (NSTP), were both mentioned as priorities of his administration in the first State of the Nation Address of His Excellency, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in July 2022, Galvez said in a statement Wednesday night.
Additionally, he mentioned that the military industry and the ROLP may work together to examine the policies and procedures to ensure that the ROTC program of instruction will be responsive to national needs and that “genuine love (of) our country is at the heart of its execution.”
On March 24, Galvez presided over the ROLP board of directors’ swearing-in ceremony. They were led by Davao City 3rd District Representative Isidro Ungab, the organization’s president and chairperson as well as a reservist colonel and commander of the 2202nd Ready Reserve Brigade.
I congratulate the newly elected national officers and trustees of your highly regarded organization on behalf of the One Defense Team. I am delighted to have administered your oath of office, which formally binds you to render service once more to our nation, particularly in the advocacy of developing a stronger reserve force, in light of ROLP’s strategic role as a dependable support system to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), he said.
Galvez further said that the ROLP, which was established in 1938, has been the glue that holds together the ROTC graduates, the ROTC advanced course students, and the commissioned professionals in serving the country as an essential part of the AFP for 85 years. (PNA)
dedication to protecting PH
The commanders of the Philippine Navy (PN) and Philippine Air Force (PAF), meantime, have reaffirmed their dedication to working together to help each other in protecting the country and its citizens from any dangers.
According to a statement released by PN spokeswoman Captain Benjo Negranza on Thursday, this demonstration of “mutual solidarity” occurred during a courtesy call made by Air Force head Lt. Gen. Stephen Parreo to Navy commander Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr. on March 29.
Both military leaders discussed current and upcoming endeavors involving administration, operating concepts, facility expansion and development, and collaborations between the nation’s air and sea forces, the official said. “During the call, both military leaders reaffirmed mutual support toward achieving the overall mission of the AFP.”
Parreo praised the PN for its “professionalism and quality” over the years, particularly in the performance of joint exercises, during the meeting.
Rest confident that PAF will be your partner in achieving this aim. Thank you very much! “It is always my pleasure and honor to fly by your side and to be your partner in your joint mission to protect our people and secure the state,” he continued.
Adaci, meantime, highlighted the value of close coordination and teamwork for the successful execution of the missions of both armies.
Additionally, he promised that the Navy would continue to work with the Air Force at all levels of engagement.
The PAF’s men and women were praised by Adaci for “excellently carrying out your mandate as the protectors of our sky.”
