For the first five months of 2023, the Philippines’ overseas arrivals total exceeded two million, above the baseline goal.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) made the good news public over the weekend by quoting the most recent data, which showed that 2,002,304 foreign visitors arrived from January 1 to May 12, exceeding the goal of 1.7 million foreign visitors for the entire year 2022.

DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco stated in a news release that “despite the challenges and difficulties that our country faced, a pandemic, and the various calamities that come into our shores, the good news is that these have done nothing to break the Filipino spirit or to diminish the beauty of the Philippines.”

We have high hopes for our nation’s potential to become a tourist powerhouse in Asia based on the strength of our Filipino culture and the ideals of sustainability, adaptability, and global competitiveness.

With 487,502 visitors, South Koreans represented nearly a quarter of the total, followed by Americans (352,894 or 17.62%), Australians (102,494 or 5.12%), Canadians (98,593 or 4.92%), Japanese (97,329 or 4.86%), Chinese (75,043), Taiwanese (62,654), British (62,291), Singaporeans (53,359), and Malaysians (36,789).

DOT reported PHP168.52 billion in inbound visitor receipts from January to April, which is 782.59 percent more than the PHP19,093,427,035.59 earned during the same time the previous year, according to the same report.
