In the last three months, the Department of Transportation completed 19 airports and 33 seaport projects.
Under the government’s vast infrastructure “Build, Build, Build” program, Secretary of Transportation Arthur Tugade stated 19 airports and 33 seaport projects were finished in the last three months.
Tugade said during President Rodrigo Duterte’s ‘Talk to the People’ on Tuesday night that the DOTr had completed a total of 233 airport projects under Duterte’s administration as of November 2021.
“Nakatapos, nakabuo, at nakaayos ho tayo ng mga paliparan at mga (we completed, built, and repaired airports and) airport projects in a span of three months,” Tugade added.
The Bicol International Airport, Butuan Airport, Catarman Airport, Siquijor Airport, corporate building and second runway of the Mactan International Airport, and General Santos International Airport are among the finished airport projects, according to him.
In the maritime sector, he said that the Duterte administration has completed 484 projects so far.
“In less than three months, Mr. President, nakakumpleto ho tayo ng (we have completed, Mr. President,) 33 seaport maritime projects,” Tugade added.
Tagbilaran Port in Bohol, the Port of Maribojoc, the Port of Loon, the Port of Talibon, the Port of Ubay, and the Port of Tapal are just a few of the recently opened seaport developments.
He said 11 ports projects will be inaugurated concurrently in a virtual ceremony in Calapan, Mindoro, next week.
“Completed expansion and building, ongoing construction pati ‘yung (including) procurement, 11 ho’ at gagawin natin ‘yung seremonya sabay-sabay,” Tugade explained.
Calapan Port’s new passenger terminal, he said, is slated to become the country’s largest passenger terminal, with a maximum passenger capacity of 3,500.
He added that this will be followed by the Zamboanga Port, which will have an even higher maximum passenger capacity of 4,000 passengers at any given time.
He claimed that a total of 451 kilometers (km) of railways have been built so far, up from 77 kilometers at the start of Duterte’s government.
“Bago ho matapos ang termino ninyo, hahabulin ko ho’yung 1,090 kilometers (We will attempt to reach 1,090 kilometers before your term ends),” Tugade told Duterte.
He highlighted the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) recent rollout of 10-year valid driver’s licenses for drivers with no infractions, the free and online comprehensive driver’s education program, and the PHP1 billion fuel subsidy for 136,000 public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators in the road transport sector.
“Bago ho magtapos ang Nobyembre, hangarin po namin na nag-umpisa na at matapos bago magtapos ang taon na ito ang distribution ng 1-billion gasoline subsidy,” Tugade stated.
Tugade emphasized that DOTr initiatives under the administration’s “Build, Build, Build” program will continue despite the pandemic.
