It talks about how to take care of an acrylic fish tank.
As far back as the late 1800s, people began to keep aquariums for fish. They were a little rough. They usually only had one side that was glass, with the other three sides made of metal or wood. Most aquariums had fish that were native to the area where the owner lived because they were available. All the fish that lived in old school tanks were freshwater. Because saltwater would rust the metal frame that held the aquarium together, this is why.
In the 1960s, silicone adhesive made a big difference in how aquariums looked. There were no longer any metal frames, and more people started to keep saltwater fish and invertebrates. In the last few years, glass tanks have become less common because acrylic is so easy to work with. A lot of flexibility! Acrylic aquariums are a lot more forgiving than glass aquariums, which aren’t. Almost always, if something heavy hits a glass tank, it will break. The flexibility of an acrylic tank will keep this from happening. In addition, acrylic is more flexible than glass when it comes to design. Acrylic aquariums have been used to make everything from coffee tables to gumball machines, and they’re all made out of glass.
There is, however, a short-term downside to having an acrylic fish tank. Because they are made of plastic, they are more likely to scratch than glass. The acrylic surface of the tank can be scratched by paper towels and harsh or abrasive chemicals when you clean it. Always use a cleaner that says it’s safe for acrylic. You should use plastic or rubber scrubbers instead of metal to clean the sides of a tank that is made out of acrylic. Do not pick up a piece of gravel or substrate when you clean the inside of the tank. However, if you happen to scratch an acrylic aquarium, there’s no need to worry about it. Glass can’t be fixed, but the tank can. A specialty pet store, your hardware store, and online, you can buy acrylic repair kits to help you fix your pet’s broken things.
When you buy an acrylic aquarium kit, there will be a lot of different things to choose from, at a lot of different prices. Aquatic pet stores, big retail chains like Wal-Mart, and online are places where aquarium kits can be bought, as well. People who love fish can choose from small cylinder-shaped tanks that double as coffee table lamps to huge aquariums that cover the whole wall. While there are some things that most kits come with, like a filter, some substrate or coral, and sometimes lighting, the kits can be very different. It doesn’t really matter where you buy your starter kit. Keep in mind that it’s very important to buy your fish from a reputable store. Don’t buy fish that are near the surface, or that are in a tank with dead fish. Fish diseases are very spreadable. Be wary of a fish dealer who won’t take a certain fish out of the tank for you. Before you know it, this is going to be your fish, and you have the right to choose.
