In an entrapment operation in Quezon City, authorities arrested three people for allegedly defrauding a computer equipment company of about PHP2.6 million worth of goods.

The suspects were identified as Domino Alejandrino, 19; Julio Miguel Alejandrino, and Suhalia Benito, who were arrested on January 31 in Gilmore, Quezon City, according to a report released on Thursday by Brig. Gen. Robert Rodriguez, chief of the Philippine National Police-Anti Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG).

According to the investigation, Senco Link Technologies got an online query from a buyer named Richard Ang, who later transacted for the purchase of high-end electronics valued at PHP2,653,000.

The buyer and Emily Pascual, the company’s sales manager, agreed to a check payment for the items, which were picked up by Aisah Deron on January 30.

After learning that they had received a bounced check on January 31, Marilou Alub, an employee of the company’s finance department, found that they had been duped.

Despite several attempts, she was unable to contact the buyer.

According to Rodriguez, the company’s sales team discovered that its products are being advertised and sold on social media.

Miguel Alejandrino was selling one of their items, a MacBook Air (laptop) with the same serial number as the scammer’s purchase.

They then contacted Alejandrino and appeared to be interested in purchasing a Macbook that was being sold online, prompting Alejandrino to seek the help of PNP ACG, which led to the operation.

“Let this incident serve as a reminder to all cybercriminals/scammers: our devoted ACG staff will not stop working until all cybercrime offenders are apprehended and brought to justice for their crimes.” I applaud our ACG staff for their swift action and response, which resulted in the offenders’ arrest. “Keep doing what you’re doing,” Rodriguez urged.
