As part of the municipal government’s efforts to encourage vaccination against Covid-19, gift cards worth PHP1,000 were issued to 37,743 properly immunized senior residents in Makati.

Mayor Abby Binay said on Tuesday that vaccinations for elders are becoming increasingly important as the holiday season approaches.

“One of the strategic methods to urge the elderly to get vaccinated as soon as feasible is the PHP1,000 gift cheque incentive.” In a statement, Binay added, “Our efforts have been rewarded because we have exceeded the goal vaccination rate for their age group.”

“Senior persons are one of the most vulnerable groups to serious Covid-19 infections. It’s reassuring to know that they’re now fully protected by the vaccine and can relax and enjoy the holidays,” she added.

For the city’s fully immunized elders, booster doses are already available.

Seniors also receive regular supplies of vitamins and maintenance medications, which are delivered to their homes.

Free flu and pneumonia vaccines are also available to the elderly.

Makati has given out 932,606 dosages thus far.

Out of an estimated 624,000 residents, 429,656 have been fully vaccinated against the disease, which is close to the objective of 437,000.
