Visitors who seek to meet with President Rodrigo Duterte must submit a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) before being allowed into Malacanang on Thursday.

“Visitors and guests who desire to visit the President within the Palace or attend a Palace engagement where the President is present must demonstrate a negative RT-PCR test result,” according to interim presidential spokeswoman Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles.

As part of their second screening, he claimed, visitors and guests must submit to antigen testing inside the Palace.

He went on to say, “This is part of the Palace’s health and safety protocol.”

According to the Department of Health, RT-PCR testing is still the gold standard for finding the virus that causes Covid-19 (DOH).

Saliva and antigen testing are two more diagnostic techniques utilized in various nations.

For guests who have failed to show a negative RT-PCR test or have acquired or been exposed to Covid-19, Duterte’s close-in security previously advocated holding “virtual” meetings as a safety precaution.

Nograles made this clarification after Duterte apologized to Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III for a rumored “ruckus” in the Palace during a speech after the signing of the PHP5.024 trillion national budget for 2022.

“Senate President Vicente Sotto, nandito po kayo (do you happen to be here right now)?” I’d like to apologize for the commotion. They are quite rigid, so it is not their fault. Well, trabaho nila ‘yan (it’s their job), so if there are any lapses, I publicly apologize,” he said.

Duterte did not go into detail about the commotion in the Palace.
