Roque will advocate for environmental education at the primary school level.
MANILA โ UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque wants to advocate for environmental education for pupils from kindergarten through grade school so that they can develop a feeling of environmental responsibility.
Students, according to Roque, need to be well-informed about significant global environmental challenges in order to develop critical and creative thinking.
He promised to reintroduce House Bill No. 5984, which he first introduced in the House of Representatives while he was a member. The law aims to incorporate environmental education into the primary education department’s curriculum.
The bill requires the Department of Education (DepEd) to ensure that environmental education is included in the curriculum from kindergarten to elementary school. This component will teach students about themes such as recycling, energy efficiency, conservation, and climate change, among others.
The National Environmental Consciousness and Education Act, or Republic Act 9512, was enacted in 2008 to increase environmental awareness through environmental education, which includes ecological concepts, principles, and laws.
According to the law, the Department of Education (DepEd), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are all responsible for implementing public education and awareness programs on environmental protection and conservation.
