BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – The local government has enlisted the help of the state-owned Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) to accept online payments for business permits and real estate taxes.

The City Treasurer’s Office’s new payment system, which went into effect on Wednesday, is now available.

The system follows the “new normal” standards that encourage contactless transactions, according to Mayor Evelio Leonardia, and is in accordance with the city’s goal of introducing sustainable development and next-generation government services to its citizens.

The city’s collaboration with the DBP for a unique internet payment gateway for government organizations lets taxpayers to do online transactions using their valid debit, credit, or other prepaid cards.

“We are one of the first online payment systems in Negros Occidental, and this is just the beginning.” “We’ll keep trying new things and using new technology to make transactions easier,” Leonardia said.

The Local Council has given Leonardia permission to sign the e-merchant agreement between the city administration and the DBP, which is represented by Ricardo Josel Bandal II, the head of Cash Management and Transaction Banking.

As approved by the City Council, the city’s business one-stop-shop at Ayala Malls Capitol Central and payment of business taxes fees and levies will be available until March 31, 2022.

Leonardia has previously requested an extension of the deadlines for submitting business permits and licenses for the year 2022, as well as the first quarter payment of business taxes, fees, and charges without fines or surcharge until March 31, with a 10% discount on one-time payments.
