DA advises against carrying pork goods.
MANILA, Philippines โ On Thursday, the Department of Agriculture (DA) warned the public to avoid transporting meat products during Holy Week, as the hog-raising industry works to overcome the obstacles posed by African swine fever (ASF) in the country.
Even if the number of ASF cases has decreased, DA-Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Director Dr. Reildrin Morales stated citizens and hog raisers should not be complacent.
“‘Di po tayo nakakasiguro, bagaman sinasabi po natin na maayos na po or kampante tayo sa lagay ng ASF ngayon,’di po tayo nakakasiguro, bagaman sinasabi po natin na maayos na po or kampante t We’re not sure, but we’re not sure if it’s getting better or if the present ASF status is secure). We are not required to down our guard. Higher levels of awareness and pagbabantay are required for masiguro natin na hindi po tayo magkakaroon ng spread ng ASF (monitoring to ensure that ASF does not spread further) “he stated
Only seven municipalities and four provinces in two regions currently have active instances of ASF, compared to 688 municipalities, 51 provinces, and 13 regions in the previous year, affecting a total of 3,720 barangays nationally.
“Medyo maganda po ‘yung ating pagtanaw pagdating dito sa (We have a positive outlook on) ASF,” says the narrator. Actually, ‘yung na-recover natin na area ay nasa 64 na (we’ve recovered 64 regions), but mahigit (but more than) 500 cities and municipalities na po ‘yan na wala na pong reported na case ng ASF (with no recorded cases of ASF) for the last three to six months, if not longer,” he said.
Another suspected ASF incident in the Davao region is still being investigated, according to Morales.
“Kasalukuyan po na bina-validate natin’yan, may tao tayo sa ground (We are now validating it, we have people on the ground), collecting samples, and we’re waiting for the samples’ results,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Morales expressed optimism about the ASF vaccine, which was developed by Kuala Lumpur University in Thailand.
“We can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but walang namatay sa trial po na animalsโฆ Ngayon sa (Among the animals, no one perished in the trialโฆ Now in the) area, nag-survive po Asec e, so we’ll see what happens; we’re optimistic “he stated
