BUTUAN CITY, PHILIPPINES – The Commission on Elections has authorized the deployment of 6,886 police personnel by the Police Regional Office in Caraga (PRO-13) for election-related functions (Comelec).

PRO-13 Director Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. said in a statement on Thursday that 258 officers out of 6,886 were trained and ready to serve as electoral board members in various areas across the region.

“PRO-13 is currently on high alert and well prepared for the upcoming national and local elections,” Caramat stated.

Police officers were also tasked to protect and secure vote-counting machines, official ballots, and other election-related equipment, materials, and paraphernalia, according to him.

During the election, PRO-13 will work closely with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine Coast Guard, and Department of Education teachers, he said.

“In Caraga Region, we are on high alert, and we will remain watchful against any threat that might prevent our people from exercising their right to vote,” Caramat added.
