To avoid monkeypox, the Department of Health will implement a “four-door plan.”
MANILA, Philippines — According to a health expert, the Department of Health would apply the four-door plan to prevent monkeypox from entering the country.
The National Emergency Operational Response Plan’s framework for preventing and controlling emerging infectious illnesses is the four-door strategy.
Dr. Edsel Salvaa, a member of the DOH–Technical Advisory Group, stated the strategy would include a Prevent, Detect, Isolate, Treat, and Reintegrate (PDITR) approach in a televised public briefing.
Salvana stated that it will begin with border control and progress to other steps like testing, contact tracing, masking, and vaccination, similar to the government’s reaction to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

“Masasakop na rin dito ‘yung monkeypox dahil sa (Monkeypox will be included here because of) monitoring we do to make sure they are asymptomatic when they’re on flights,” he explained.
Monkeypox is not fatal, according to specialists, and its spread is easier to halt than Covid-19.
Monkeypox can be prevented with smallpox vaccines and treatments that have been demonstrated to work.
“Hindi po ito parang Covid-19 na wala tayong alam nung nag-start ng March 2020,” Salvaa explained.
Although the country does not have a stockpile of monkeypox vaccines, Salvana said the government has connections in case procurement is required.
“Meron naman tayong contacts with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other agencies na kung kakailanganin natin ng tulong para sa pag-procure nito (We have contacts with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other agencies if we need help procuring them),” he said.
“This is something that we need to monitor, but it’s not on the level of Covid-19,” Salvana remarked.
