Dengue cases have increased by 90%

The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Monday that the country has recorded 64,797 dengue cases for the first half of the year, with Central Luzon registering the highest number of illnesses.

The number, documented from January 1 to June 25, 2022, is 90 percent higher than the 34,074 cases during the same period last year, the DOH noted in a Viber message to the media.

The majority of dengue casesโ€”9,426 or 15%โ€”were reported in Central Luzon, followed by Central Visayas (7,741 or 12%) and the Zamboanga Peninsula (5,684 or 9%).

Between May 29 and June 25, there were 21,115 instances reported. 3,902 people, or 18% of the total, came from Central Luzon, 2,316 people, or 11% from Central Visayas, and 1,997 people, or 9%, came from the National Capital Region (NCR).

Dengue caused 274 recorded deaths overall, including 36 on January, 32 on February, 39 in March, 46 in April, 63 in May, and 58 in June.

Dengue infections are anticipated to increase due to the rainy season, according to infectious diseases expert Rontgene Solante in a televised public briefing.

The Philippines is one of the Asian nations with the highest number of dengue cases, according to data from the World Health Organization.

Dengue 1, Dengue 2, Dengue 3, and Dengue 4 are all present in the country, according to Solante, which explains why there has been an increase in cases.

He claimed that the most crucial precaution to take in order to reduce cases in environmental hygiene.

He said, “This entails controlling mosquito breeding grounds and sanitizing the environment. Ibig sabihin ang pag-control ng mga lamok.

When it comes to case management, early recognition, according to Solante, is essential.

The sole vaccine against dengue is Dengvaxia, which has received approval in nations such as Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

“Here in the Philippines, where the dengue is very prevalent, we don’t have this kind of preventive measure,” Solante said. “Dito sa Pilipinas, where the dengue is highly prevalent, tayo po ‘yung walang ganitong klaseng.”

So, in the event that the government decides to adopt Dengvaxia, he continued, “I believe it is high time for them to evaluate the evidence and the advantage of this vaccine, which is the prevention of hospitalization and the prevention of severe dengue.”

The Dengvaxia vaccination is still not being used. Only after the suspension is released may it be used.

To prevent any issues, Solante stated there should be rules about its use.

He continued, “What’s important is, proper recommendation and correct indication as to when to use it and for which age group to be clear, so that we don’t have hesitations. “Siguro, ang importante lang dito, tamang rekomendasyon at tamang indikasyon kung kailan natin gagamitin at kung saang edad gagamitin para malinaw, at hindi t
