The public was urged to be more cautious and take preventative measures against flash floods and landslides brought on by inclement weather on Monday by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

NDRRMC head, Undersecretary Jose Faustino Jr., posted on social media over the weekend, “We advise the public to remain vigilant and prepared for the rising likelihood of floods and landslides during this rainy season.”

Faustino, who also serves as the officer-in-charge of the Department of National Defense, stated that the agency will keep bolstering its “mechanisms, processes, and activities” to guarantee the continuous protection of the Filipino people.

He continued, “I hope that everyone will join in our appeal for collective actions towards a safe, resilient, and prosperous nation as we commemorate National Disaster Resilience Month.

In the province of Ifugao, floods last week affected over 500 people.

Meanwhile, Cebu had strong rainfall from the intertropical convergence zone, which caused widespread flooding.

A woman was murdered, meantime, when a landslide buried their home on July 9 in Bataan during the heaviest rains. (
