Over 800 aftershocks are produced by the Abra earthquake in a day.

Nearly 24 hours after a magnitude 7 earthquake rattled Abra, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) stated that over 800 aftershocks had been detected.

As of 8 a.m., 815 aftershocks had been registered. 24 were felt, and 168 were plotted or located.

These aftershocks had magnitudes ranging from 1.5 to 5.

At 8:43 a.m. on Wednesday, a significant tectonic earthquake struck 3 kilometers northwest of the Tayum municipality. Its depth was 17 kilometers.

In a press conference, Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum Jr. said that the movement along the Abra River Fault was to blame for the earthquake.

According to him, aftershocks typically peak during the first two days and then progressively decline.

Solidum recommended people first examine any damaged infrastructure and leave the area for the time being.

Additionally, he exhorted the local authorities to pinpoint any sites that had to be avoided for security reasons.
