Ilocos Region’s internship program will get P7.3 million from DOLE.

For the salaries and insurance coverage of interns who will be placed in a variety of government organizations in the Ilocos Region, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has allotted PHP7.3 million.

In a phone conversation on Monday, Justin Paul Marbellam, the information officer for DOLE’s Ilocos regional office, stated that the organization is seeking 292 interns for the Government Internship Program (GIP).

They will serve at local government units (LGUs), regional line agencies, and other provincial, satellite, or field offices starting in August and continuing through November. A daily salary of PHP370 will be given to each GIP intern, he added.

In order to lessen the effects of inflation on low-income families in the area, priority is given to dependents of minimum wage workers or those getting PHP312 to PHP370 daily rate.

Young people are offered the chance to obtain work experience, which gives them the chance to join the government service and maybe advance their careers.

According to Evelyn Ramos, Director of DOLE in Ilocos, Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma instructed them to help parents and breadwinners who are working for the minimum wage by allowing their dependents to work for themselves and supplement the family income.

Dependents of minimum wage workers between the ages of 18 and 30 are eligible for GIP, as are recent high school graduates without any prior job experience and those willing to work for three months in any Ilocos Region government agency.

In Pangasinan, the DOLE would also offer marginalized and underprivileged informal laborers livelihood aid.

For instance, the Curambing Pao Farmers Association has received PHP1 million for a farm mechanization project that will help its 91 members.

Under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers initiative, 1,618 marginalized people from Lingayen have been hired for community work, such as cleaning and disinfection, in all the villages of the capital city.

A daily wage of PHP370 will be given to each beneficiary.
