The Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) was acknowledged by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) as a dependable partner in advancing its peace programs.

According to a statement released by OPAPRU chief secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. on Tuesday in conjunction with Wesmincom’s 16th founding anniversary on August 29, “The WestMinCom has also been a reliable partner of the OPAPRU in pushing forward and sustaining the gains of the comprehensive Philippine peace process, which has resulted in increased stability, progress, and development in Western Mindanao.”

Since its establishment in 2006, Galvez said, the Wescom has been at the vanguard of efforts to maintain stability in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and other regions of Western Mindanao.

The chairman of OPAPRU added that Wesmincom has suppressed or eliminated illegal forces that incite fear, strife, and bloodshed among the public through its stepped-up peacekeeping interventions.

“The Westmincom stands out as a group due to its unwavering dedication to peace and belief that true and lasting peace cannot be attained alone through the use of force but also through communication and understanding. I can attest to the excellent level of professionalism, integrity, and dedication displayed by the personnel of the Command, especially in the most trying circumstances, as a previous Westmincom commander, “Added Galvez.

Galvez oversaw Wesmincom from January 17, 2017, to May 23, 2018, then until December 2018, he commanded the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

He graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1985 as well.

“Congratulations for another year of exceptional service to our countrymen and our nation, to the officers and troops of the Westmincom headed by your commander Lt. Gen. Alfredo Valderrama Rosario Jr.,” he added. (
