Following the Covid-19 exposure, 20 Bacolod City officials self-isolate themselves
After coming into contact with Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, who tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Monday, nine city officials and eleven village heads in this area underwent self-isolation.
Greg Gasataya, the representative for the Lone District, and the councilors Jude Thaddeus Sayson, Al Victor Espino, Vladimir Gonzales, Jason Villarosa, Claudio Jesus Puentevella, Simplicia Distrito, Celia Flor, and Psyche Marie Sy were among the representatives from the city.
They traveled to Japan from November 4 to November 7 on a vacation organized by Benitez for members of his party, including current and past city officials, many barangay leaders, and their families.
Caesar Distrito, a former councilor who traveled with the group, said they “considered it necessary and reasonable to exercise caution and prudence”.
Distrito, Team Asenso’s legal advisor, declared on Tuesday that “we will self-isolate within the time frame allowed by the established protocols of the Inter-Agency Task Force on those exposed to a Covid-19 positive individual.”
Despite the fact that we have no symptoms, he continued, “We also guarantee the public that we will submit to swab testing to ensure that we are free from Covid-19 and for everyone’s protection.”
According to Distrito, the mayor covered all of the costs for the city officials’ travel to Japan while they were on official leave.
Benitez revealed on Monday afternoon that he had the virus but is just experiencing minor symptoms and will continue to work from home.
The mayor claimed that before meeting with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. after he arrived in the nation, he got himself tested as part of the health regulations.
“I had a test on myself when I got back to Manila this morning after my official leave, and the results were positive in time for my meeting with President BBM. I’m fine, but I have some minor symptoms,” he continued.
The majority of the 14 members of the City Council are being held in isolation, according to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, so they will meet via Zoom on Wednesday rather than in person.
“For everyone’s safety because symptoms may not always appear for five days. We’re hoping that every test comes back negative,” he continued.
