Conflict and typhoon-affected NegOcc inhabitants receive P23-M help.
According to information released on Tuesday by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 6 (Western Visayas), residents of Negros Occidental who were impacted by armed conflict and Severe Tropical Storm Paeng in October had received PHP23 million in aid.
The distribution of family food kits to people impacted by Paeng is still continuing, according to May Rago-Castillo, DSWD-6 information officer.
A total of 9,894 family food packs costing PHP5.72 million and PHP829,575 in non-food items have been distributed to Negros Occidental, for a total of PHP6.55 million.
The sum of PHP667,133 was collectively provided by the city administration and non-governmental groups.
Meanwhile, 5,444 households in four villages were impacted by the clashes in Himamaylan City between the 94th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army and rebels from the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army that began on October 6.
These included the 3,313 families in Barangay Carabalan, 1,985 in Barangay Cabadiangan, and 28 in Barangay 3-Poblacion.
118 families in Barangay Bi-ao in the nearby town of Binalbagan were also impacted.
According to data, the DSWD-6 has given out PHP11.81 million in total, PHP10.01 million of which was given as financial support to more than 3,000 displaced families through the Armed Conflict Financial Assistance program.
Family food packs valued at PHP1.25 million, family kits for PHP264,600, hygiene kits worth PHP154,717, and sleeping kits at PHP133,350 were also provided.
Additionally, the local government contributed $4.25 million in aid.
On October 16, Sitios Palayan and Guia residents in Barangay Cabadiangan and others from Barangay Carabalan became the first to return to their homes.
On October 19, residents of Sitios Medel, Campaya, and Sig-ang were also given permission to return home after the military had cleared the primary encounter sites in Barangay Carabalan.
