In January 2023, PBBM is invited to the WEF in Switzerland.

Malacanang said on Saturday that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has been invited to the WEF in Switzerland in January 2023.

Klaus Schwab, the founder and executive chairman of the WEF, offered the invitation to Marcos during a breakfast meeting on Saturday in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, according to Undersecretary Cheloy Garafil, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS).

“President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has been invited to the 2023 World Economic Forum (WEF), which will be held in Davos, Switzerland, from January 16 to 20. During a breakfast meeting with President Marcos, Schwab extended the invitation “said Garafil in a statement.

Schwab praised Marcos for the ostensibly robust Philippine economy in spite of the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic and other difficulties on the international stage.

Then he requested Marcos to go to the WEF and encourage more businessmen to make investments in the nation.

In an effort to draw in more investors, Schwab advised Marcos that attending the WEF would be an excellent opportunity to inform the international business community about the energy and positive advancements taking place in the Philippines, according to Garafil.

The President was pushed not to skip the gathering in Davos the next year by Speaker Martin Romualdez, who joined Marcos in the meeting with the WEF CEO.

In spite of the President’s busy schedule at the ASEAN summit in Cambodia, Romualdez, who played a key role in setting up the meeting, said the annual gathering would give the Philippines the chance to show the world’s top businessmen that the country is open for business with a new and popular president.

Romualdez added, “It might be a good opportunity to announce to the entire world that the Philippines is open for business with a very new and very popular government, and with highly skilled and experienced economic managers.

A worldwide organization for public-private partnerships, WEF was founded in 1971.

Leaders from government, business, and civil society gather annually at the WEF to debate global issues and decide on goals for the coming year.

On Friday, Garafil also revealed that Marcos had accepted the offer of Chinese President Xi Jinping to make a state visit to China during the first week of 2019.

For the 40th and 41st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summits and Related Summits, Marcos is currently in Cambodia.

In an effort to persuade business executives in Cambodia to make investments in the nation, Marcos hosted a roundtable conversation with them on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit on Thursday.
