Marcos desires to delay the rate increases until after Christmas.

On Tuesday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. stated that his administration is making every effort to stop fuel costs from rising further in time for the holiday season.

The fuel wasn’t tumaas when I was working today, so that’s what I was doing. At least not until Christmas man lang (that is the goal we are now aiming for). At least not for Christmas),” he stated in a press conference following his meeting with IRRI representatives in the Laguna province’s Los Baos hamlet.

According to Marcos, delaying the anticipated power increases until next year will greatly benefit consumers who are being negatively impacted by the rising prices of essential goods and services.

If possible, I would like to postpone or delay the event. Dahan-dahanin natin ang pagtaas, kung tataas man. Make it progressive, or masyado nang nahirapan ang tao. If it does, we must gradually bring it about. (People already endure enough misery.)

Marcos made this statement as he expressed his concerns over the Court of Appeals (CA) temporary restraining order (TRO), which prevents the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and San Miguel Corp. subsidiary South Premier Power Corp. from implementing their power supply agreement (PSA) (SPPC).

“My worry now is the TRO imposed by the CA on the PSA of San Miguel and Meralco,” he said.

Marcos referred to the CA’s decision to halt the PSA between Meralco and SPPC as “unfortunate” on Sunday.

It is regrettable that the PSA between Meralco and San Miguel has been implemented because it will lead to additional disruptions and maybe higher power prices.

He also expressed the hope that the CA would “reconsider” its choice and take into account “the highly detrimental effect” it would have on everyday Filipinos’ access to electricity.

In the upcoming months, rising electricity prices are anticipated due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The Marcos administration is still giving monetary assistance to impacted groups like truckers, fishermen, and farmers.

In order to give people cheaper electricity, the government is also looking to expand the proportion of renewable energy in the nation’s generation mix.
