The Bureau of Customs (BOC) said on Monday that as of November, it has already achieved its overall income goal for 2022.

According to its preliminary report, the bureau reported that in the first 11 months of this year, it collected PHP790.301 billion in total income.

In contrast to the PHP721.52 billion revenue collection objective for this year, this resulted in a PHP68.781 billion surplus.

Additionally, this represents the highest collecting performance in bureau history.

By collecting PHP76.770 billion in November, up PHP16.176 billion or 26.7 percent from the PHP60.603 billion collection objective, the BOC again exceeded its monthly income collection target.

Additionally, the agency’s 17 collection districts all exceeded their total revenue goals for the previous 11 months.

Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz thanked the staff of the Bureau for their devotion and teamwork as they continued to deliver frontline services for the nation.

Under his direction, a number of reforms were accelerated and put into place, which prepared the road for stopping revenue leaks and maintaining strong collection performance.

Benjamin Diokno, the finance secretary, earlier voiced optimism that the BOC’s revenue surplus may make up for other national revenue-generating institutions’ shortfalls.

He was also certain that the bureau’s significant contribution would help the government meet its collection target.

In order to fulfill the demands of a digital economy, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. directed Ruiz to place a priority on increasing tax collection, reducing smuggling and modernizing Customs procedures.
