BI increases its anti-trafficking efforts by opening a TikTok account.

By setting up its own TikTok account, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) intends to combat the recruitment tactics used by human trafficking gangs on social media sites.

Using TikTok, Facebook, and other messaging and social media platforms, young urban professionals are being recruited to work overseas as bitcoin scammers, according to several reports, according to Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco.

In this scam, victims were promised salaries of up to $1,000 per month to work in call centers in different Asian nations, only to be coerced into becoming internet scammers instead.

“Kailangang ng humabol (We need to be at par with them). We think we need to use the same means to go out to the younger audiences to remind them not to fall for these frauds since these syndicates are exploiting these new platforms for recruiting, he said in a statement on Tuesday.

The BI head also urged ambitious overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to only apply for jobs legally with the Department of Migrant Workers’ support (DMW).

He continued by saying that human trafficking is a significant social issue that requires comprehensive attention.

“Trafficking is a complex problem that needs to be handled from the ground up. Governmental organizations must step up their efforts to combat trafficking, beginning with a broad education campaign to enlighten victims, he added.

The BI previously said that while recruiters now specifically target young urban professionals to engage in dubious industries abroad, the environment of human trafficking victims has radically changed.
