Marcos envisions deeper ties with Mauritania and Mongolia.

As he greeted their ambassadors on Monday at Malacanang Palace, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed his hope for closer connections with Mongolia and Mauritania.

Marcos acknowledged Enkhbayar Sosorbaram, the ambassador of Mongolia to the Philippines, and listed agriculture, energy, education, and all other essential services as the country’s top priority for rapid development as it advances toward post-pandemic recovery.

“These are the areas where I believe we can cooperate with other nations. The two-way exchanges always benefit both parties, Marcos informed the Mongolian representative.

In addition to visiting Mongolia, he expressed excitement over the expanding ties between the two nations.

Meanwhile, Sosorbaram acknowledged the Philippines as a key player in Southeast Asia and a global partner, particularly in the United Nations (UN).

He stressed the significance of strengthening people-to-people exchange in the bilateral ties between their countries. Although there aren’t many Mongolians in the Philippines, a lot of them are currently enrolling in Philippine universities.

The president of Mongolia, Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, invited the head of the Philippines to visit his nation, especially between June and August when the weather is more pleasant, according to the Mongolian envoy.

In 1973, the Philippines and Mongolia established diplomatic ties.

The two nations will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the start of diplomatic relations next year.

Marcos also greeted B.A. Samba Mamadou, the ambassador for Mauritania, expressed confidence in the potential for business partnerships between their nations.

He claimed that a list of Filipino entrepreneurs who might invest in Mauritania is now being put together.

“We are opening up the economy to partnerships —- all kinds of partnerships, government-to-government, private partnerships, PPPs [public-private partnerships], whatever is most advantageous to both parties,” Marcos said in reference to the Philippine economy. “I think in terms of the economy in the Philippines, the biggest change in the policy of this government from the last and previous ones,” Marcos said.

He also discussed the continuous efforts being made by his administration to explore alternatives to its traditional energy partners.

According to Marcos, the nation is currently weaning itself off of using conventional fossil fuels to generate electricity.

In response, Mamadou informed Marcos of his nation’s efforts to broaden its alliances outside of traditional allies for the good of its nation and its people.

In order to properly discuss and seize chances in Mauritania, Mamadou remarked, “I am looking forward to seeing some Filipino businesses.”

The freshly discovered enormous gas deposits both offshore and inland, as well as the country’s robust fishing industry, were mentioned along with Mauritania’s mineral resources, including coal, copper, and plutonium.

Despite having a fairly tiny population, Mauritania has natural resources, including fisheries. We collaborate with nations like China, Turkey, Japan, and the European Union, he stated.

In addition, Mamadou voiced optimism for advancements in agriculture and professional training, citing Mauritania’s successful past with rice production as one of its key exports.

On September 30, 2013, the Philippines and Mauritania formally established diplomatic ties.
