Modernization of the PH Army will assist protect the sovereignty

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are able to carry out their mandate of defending the country and its citizens, including preserving its sovereignty, thanks to the Philippine Army’s (PA) continuing modernization efforts.

“Under the second horizon of the Revised AFP Modernization Program, the PA is also continuously modernizing its defense assets and materiel. For this year, the organization deployed game-changing assets such as 12 units of 155mm self-propelled howitzers, 15 units of M-113A2 armored mortar carriers, two units of vehicle-mounted mine detectors, two units of armor vehicle launch bridge, unmanned aerial systems, combat radios, and thermal imagers.

The PA’s long-term transformation agenda is highlighted by these initiatives, he continued.

“In addition, the command installed 234 very small aperture terminals in remote patrol bases to provide connectivity to troops and outlying communities. To deal with emerging threats, the command activated units such as the 10th Field Artillery Battalion (SP-155), the cyber battalion, five installation management battalions, and three infantry battalions.

The PA started the third and final base camp of the Army Transformation Roadmap this year, with the goal of realizing its full capacity as a top-tier land force by 2028.

According to Brawner, the PA recently underwent a “strategic refresh” with the assistance of its partners and stakeholders with the goal of becoming a cross-domain capable and multi-mission ready ground force by the year 2040.

The PA recognizes the troops’ toil, suffering, and selfless service in upholding their oath to protect and defend the people and the territory, he continued.

In addition, Brawner reassured the public that the PA, the largest and longest-standing AFP major service, would uphold the hard-won peace in localities while continuing to protect the country’s sovereignty.

The AFP modernization programs, the Philippine Development Plan “Ambisyon Natin 2040,” and the PA’s organizational and capabilities development plans serve as the foundation for this new vision.

Brawner, on the other hand, claimed that major players are also essential to the Army’s modernization and equipment.

He gave the two big gifts that the Army Aviation Regiment received this year as an example: a Short Sherpa freight plane and a Bolkow helicopter, both from German companies.

The growing number of the Philippine Army’s engagements with foreign partners is also a testament to the organization’s stature as a sought-after exercise partner. To note, the PA participated in this year’s US Army Pacific-led Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center Exercise in Hawaii, USA, and Exercise Carabaroo with the Australian Army in Australia.

He continued by saying that the PA headquarters also made sure that all ground troops received urgently needed resources to support the execution of their missions.

These successes allowed the Army’s operations forces, who are a part of the joint force, to achieve significant triumphs over local terrorist organizations and communist insurgents.

The PA head reported that from January 2022 to December 2022, “Army personnel engaged state adversaries in four decisive encounters, 15 significant encounters, and 96 minor encounters, neutralizing 1,407 communist and local terrorists and capturing 1,484 enemy weaponry.”

He continued, “The neutralization of their top leaders, such as Benito and Wilma Tiamzon in Catbalogan City, Samar in August, highlights the permanent defeat of communist militants.”

According to Brawner, “it is important to note that the ‘whole of nation approach’ has bolstered the Army troops’ campaign to put an end to the communist insurgency, paving the way for the dismantling of guerrilla fronts and the surrender and return to normal society of 2,011 rebels during the year.”

On its 87th anniversary, AFP will display contemporary assets.

Prior to its 87th founding anniversary on December 21, the military would present freshly acquired equipment and other platforms in an anniversary program on Monday.

With the theme “AFP @87: Kaisa ng Buong Sabayanan Tungo sa Mapayapa, Matatag at Maunlad na Pilipinas,” Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City will host an event to commemorate the AFP’s 87th anniversary on December 19. Through the display of these assets, the AFP hopes to highlight our transformation and advancement as a military organization, according to AFP spokesperson Col. Medel Aguilar, who made

Fly-bys of air assets over Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City and the surrounding areas are part of the rehearsals being done in advance of the event.

He noted that movements of ground assets were also anticipated because they would be involved in the static display, parade, and inspection inside the camp.

The anniversary show may be seen on Monday at 2 p.m. on the RTVM Facebook Page. “Everyone is invited to join us on this momentous event,” Aguilar added.

Honoring fallen warriors

Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro, the chief of staff of the AFP, presided over a wreath-laying ceremony on Friday to remember the soldiers who gave their lives while performing their duties at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani in Taguig City and all significant military bases across the country.

Maj. Gen. Arthur Cordura, vice chief of staff of the AFP, presided over the ceremony at the AFP general headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

In his remarks, Bacarro recalled the struggles and victories of each AFP fighter.

He mentioned previous conflicts and significant battles, such as the siege of Zamboanga and the battle for Marawi, where Filipino military gallantry was on display.

“This yearly wreath-laying displays our commitment to honor the devotion, tenacity, and priceless services of the departed troops,” Bacarro added.

May we never forget the names and acts of our heroes, whom we celebrate today, he said, “let us deliver our swiftest salute to our heroes for their unparalleled sacrifices for the country. They have given us the gift of peace and freedom borne out of their sacrifices.
