Pope has submitted his resignation in the event of health issues.
Pope Francis has disclosed that he has signed a letter of resignation that can be used in the event that he is unable to carry out his responsibilities due to illness.
Following his election as Pope in 2013, he claimed to have given the letter to the former Vatican Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone.
In an interview that appeared in the weekend edition of the Spanish daily ABC, Francis stated, “I have already signed my resignation.”
“Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone held the position. I signed it and informed him that I was resigning in case of a delay due to a medical issue or for any other cause “.
When Benedict XVI resigned in 2013, he was the first pope to do so in the previous six centuries.
