With the addition of the municipalities of Barotac Nuevo and Dumangas on December 24, nine towns in the province of Iloilo are now classified as being in the red or infected zone for African swine fever (ASF).

Executive Order No. 460-F, which Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. of Iloilo signed on December 24 and which the Public Information and Community Affairs Office made public on Tuesday, contained the classification.

It modified Executive 460, which was issued on October 17 and required quarantine protocols as well as disease prevention and control measures against ASF.

Municipalities or localities with verified ASF-confirmed instances of outbreaks will be included in the “red zone.” According to the EO, a confirmed outbreak is when ASF is found in domestic or wild pigs on farms in one barangay and spreads within 15 days to additional barangays in the same municipality.

Defensor said that the convective polymerase chain reaction (cPCR) test for ASF revealed positive results for swine samples from Barangays Cruz in Barotac Nuevo and Jardin and Ermita in Dumangas.

Oton, San Miguel, Leganes, New Lucena, Alimodian, Santa Barbara, and Mina were among the other towns that had previously been designated as being in the red zone.

Live pigs, pork, pork products (fresh/frozen and uncooked processed pork products, excluding cooked and canned processed pork products), and swine genetic materials must not be moved into or out of the aforementioned municipality. The edict said that the red zone designation would not be lifted until it was.

The National Zoning and Movement Plan for the Prevention and Control of the ASF or section II of the Department of Agriculture Administrative Circular No. 02, series of 2022 must govern the inter-zonal movement of people who are in the pink, yellow, light green, and dark green zones.
