The city’s City Sports Development Division (CSDD) has urged the public and private sectors to make sure that the March 26 Ironman 70.3 triathlon race in the city is a success.

In a radio interview on Wednesday, CSDD director Mikey Aportadera stated that the city’s tourism operations office is working with CSDD to finalize plans for the national event.

Planning for Ironman 70.3, according to Aportadera, will incorporate several public health guidelines in addition to the previous templates, which include a 1.9-kilometer (km) swim in the Davao Gulf, a 90-km bike ride from Bajada in Davao City to Tagum City and back, and a 21-km run from Victoria Plaza to Azuela Cove and back.

According to Aportadera, “The previous hosting was successful thanks to the participation of Davao City’s business and public sectors as well as the nearby local government units and municipalities.”

He did note that Ironman events are defined by a festival-like environment due to the enormous volume of enthusiasts and spectators, but he did say changes will be made to integrate the new normal standards.

According to Aportadera, neighboring local governments have been urged to collaborate because the race route crosses outside city limits.

The sporting event is predicted to boost business in hotels, restaurants, and other tourism-related companies.

The local government’s top priorities continue to be lodgings and security planning as the city prepares for the surge of tourists.

“How we will once again welcome these many people when the time comes is a challenge for Davao as a whole,” Aportadera added.
