Most public schools nationwide reported on Wednesday that they had not observed any unfavorable situations on the first day of the return of in-person classes.

DepEd official Michael Poa also provided information on the regions affected by the heavy rains in a Viber message.

No suspicious occurrences related to the start of courses have yet been reported. However, according to Poa, some locations in Regions 5, 6, 8, and MIMAROPA’s LGUs canceled courses due to bad weather.

Schools in numerous regions of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Antique, the Bicol region, and Western, and Eastern Visayas, were among those that suspended classes.

Only eight schools are presently being used as evacuation shelters, according to the most recent information from the regional directors of Region 10 and Caraga as of yesterday (Jan. 3), Poa continued.

Heavy rainfall and flooding were brought to these places by the low-pressure area, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), shearling, and northeast monsoon.
Infrastructure damage to 41 schools was documented as of Tuesday, mostly in the Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and Zamboanga Peninsula regions.

In contrast, the DepEd stated that it required PHP389.50 million for the renovation and rebuilding of damaged schools.

Prior to that, it provided affected schools, students, and DepEd staff with support and intervention.
