Floods and bad weather stop Zambo airport from stopping operations.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said that the Zamboanga International Airport has been closed since early Wednesday morning because its runway is flooded.
The CAAP said that the flooding was caused by heavy rain and high tide.
Eric Apolonio, a spokesman for the CAAP, told the Philippine News Agency at 9:13 p.m. that the airport is still closed because of bad weather.
Even though the airport was flooded, CAAP said that two Cebu Pacific (CEB) flights, 5J 517 from Davao and 5J 851 from Manila, landed safely. Two CEB flights from Manila and Tawi-Tawi were rerouted to Misamis Oriental province’s Laguindingan Airport.
A flight from AirAsia from Manila was also sent to Davao International Airport.
CAAP also said that the departure of flight GAP 2485 to ZIA has been put on hold, while flight GAP 2486 has been canceled.
Because of bad weather and low visibility, the runway at Dipolog Airport was closed, so CEB’s flight from Manila was sent to Mactan, which is in the province of Cebu.
Philippine Airlines flights PR 2557 and 2558 (MNL to DPL and back to MNL) were able to go as planned.
The low pressure area (LPA) that was last seen 475 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, remains less likely to become a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours.
But the weather bureau said that this LPA and the shear line will cause moderate to heavy, and sometimes very heavy, rains over Eastern and Central Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula, the Dinagat Islands, and the provinces of Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur.
