Avian Influenza A(H5N1) cases have not yet been reported in humans in PH: DOH
According to a health official, there have been no human instances of Avian Influenza A(H5N1) in the nation.
Dr. Alethea de Guzman, director of the Department of Health Epidemiology Bureau, stated in an online town hall forum that domestic fowls are showing signs of bird flu in the second level of the country’s four-tier preparedness and response strategy.
We want to maintain our status as having no confirmed human cases of avian influenza, she added, adding, “Wala pa tayong ni isang.”
De Guzman made the claim after cases were found in a number of nations.
The World Health Organization reports that avian influenza A(H5N1) cases in humans have been reported in 868 cases across 21 nations. 455 of the total patients have passed away.
The virus, which has been classified as highly pathogenic avian influenza and comprises the H5N1 virus, affects both wild and domesticated birds.
According to De Guzman, cases occur in people who often come into contact with contaminated objects and diseased birds.
On January 7, Ecuador announced its first incidence of avian influenza in a human, a nine-year-old girl who was likely exposed to sick birds.
