According to Monday’s media statement from Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev, Bulgaria has begun a nationwide drive on illegal immigration.

He claimed that the effort had been planned for a while.

According to Demerdzhiev, the Border Police and the Directorate General for Combating Organized Crime have already reported successful operations.

Similar efforts with Greece are anticipated, the Minister said.

The best way to combat cross-border crime, he said, is through interaction.

A similar statement was made on Twitter by Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev: “The only way to safeguard the people and the interests of Bulgaria is via joint work and partnership.”

Geshev commended the leadership of the Interior Ministry, the hundreds of police officers, the prosecutors, and investigators working on the case throughout Bulgaria, as well as their professional interactions.
