Memorandum between the Philippines and Singapore to promote digital cooperation
The Philippines and Singapore recently inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU), which will boost their “digital collaboration,” a department of information and communications technology (DICT) official said on Tuesday.
The implementation of the MOU and “additional areas of cooperation” were the topics of a meeting between DICT spokesperson and Undersecretary Anna Maye Yu Lamentillo and Singapore Ambassador to the Philippines Gerard Ho Wei Hong on Monday, according to a statement.
“We talked about how we might implement this MOU and what areas we should concentrate on with Ambassador Ho. Singapore can share with us its best practices in e-governance and cybersecurity because they have so much experience in these fields, according to Lamentillo.
During President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s state visit to Singapore last year, an MOU on digital collaboration was inked.
On September 7, it was signed by Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information Josephine Teo, and DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy.
“The MOU covers digital cooperation on digital connectivity, especially in interoperable systems and frameworks that enable electronic documentation; cybersecurity, including organizing training courses and technical programs through the ASEAN-Singapore Cybersecurity Center of Excellence to develop and enhance skills related to cybersecurity; and digital government/e-governance, including in the areas of digital government strategy, digital government services, and digital
The MOU addresses the sharing of information, technical know-how, and best practices with countermeasures against spoofed calls and short messaging services as well as personal data protection.
Additionally, it aims to foster collaboration on cutting-edge technologies like robots, big data analytics, cloud computing, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and 5G.
In order to strengthen the digital innovation ecosystem, she added, “there will also be cooperation and knowledge exchange, including connecting business owners with potential solution providers; exploring cooperation on digital capability and capacity building programs; and exchange of knowledge and best practices on digital infrastructure.”
