Flying to Europe for investment meetings is the PH economic team
Next week, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s economic team will travel to Europe to discuss the country’s economic status and investment potential.
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said on Friday that the third Philippine Economic Briefing (PEB) will be held with corporate executives, bankers, and investors from January 23 to 27.
Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman will present the priority expenditures for the fiscal year 2023 to investors and explain how they will play out in the achievement of the goals outlined in the Philippine Development Plan 2023โ2028, according to the DBM. Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno will deliver the keynote address.
Felipe Medalla, the governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), and Arsenio Balisacan, the secretary of socioeconomic planning, will participate in a panel discussion on the state of the economy.
London and Frankfurt in Germany will be included in the PEB Europe leg.
New York and Singapore hosted the prior PEB briefings.
The British Embassy in the Philippines, Philippine embassies in Europe, and financial institutions including HSBC, UBS Group, Deutsche Bank, and Morgan Stanley are all involved in the organization of the PEB-Europe.
Additionally, there will be talks on financial literacy for the Filipino population, media appearances, and interactions with credit rating organizations like Moody’s Analytics and Fitch Ratings.
On January 23 at 4 p.m., Frankfurt time, and on January 26 at 5 p.m., London time, the DBM will webcast the PEB through its official Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/DBMgovph. Both times are Philippine times.
Opportunities for collaboration
According to a second Facebook post from the DBM on Friday, Pangandaman also met with IMF executives on Thursday to discuss joint initiatives for the country’s Public Financial Management reform plan and the institutionalization of its digitalization efforts.
The DBM posted multiple images of Pangandaman’s meeting with Shanaka Peiris and Ragnar Gudmundsson, the Philippines’ IMF mission chief and Asia Pacific Department representative, respectively.
Along with Assistant Secretary Romeo Balanquit and DBM Undersecretary Joselito Basilio, Pangandaman discussed “the remarkable progress of the Philippine government in implementing reforms.”
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is a special institution of the UN that promotes international trade facilitation, financial stability, and monetary cooperation.
