High public trust in the AFP will inspire troops even more: DND

Carlito Galvez Jr., Secretary of National Defense (DND), stated on Thursday that the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) high public approval ratings will further inspire military members to perform their jobs.

Galvez stated in a statement that “this demonstration of faith and confidence will undoubtedly push our men and women in the AFP, even more, to continue fulfilling their duties as our nation’s defenders.”

The DND director was alluding to the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted in December 2022, when the AFP received an “excellent +76” net score, an increase of nine points from the net of +67 in December 2021, for its performance.

The SWS study, which included 1,200 adult participants, also revealed that the AFP continues to have strong confidence levels in confronting both internal and external challenges to the nation’s peace and stability.

Galvez remarked, “I proudly and cordially applaud our Armed Forces for once again winning the undeniable support of the Filipino people with their performance on behalf of the whole One Defense Team.”

He also gave the people the assurance that the DND would continue to support the AFP’s growth and pursue laws and initiatives that would help the group serve the nation more effectively.

The AFP “continues to rise to the occasion and serve the people with integrity, strength, and patriotism amid the numerous challenges to our national security,” Galvez continued.

DND extends its condolences to the families of the pilots who perished in the tragedy.

The DND also extended its profound condolences to the grieving families of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) pilots who lost their lives in the Siai-Marchetti SF-260TP aircraft accident on Wednesday in Pilar, Bataan.

The accident happened as the PAF 15th Strike Wing aircraft took off from Sangley Point, Cavite, on a training mission.

The whole fleet of SF-260(TP) aircraft has been grounded in accordance with PAF standard operating procedures. In collaboration with local authorities, the PAF is presently looking into the event, according to a statement.

The pilots of the SF-260TP were engaged in “recurrency training” when the aircraft went down at approximately 10:34 a.m. on Wednesday, according to PAF spokeswoman Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo.

Recurrency training is the term used to describe the instruction given to pilots or aircrew members to become proficient in a certain aircraft.

The unfortunate aircraft, according to Castillo, was based at the Major Danilo Atienza Air Base in Sangley Point, Cavite, and belonged to the 15th Strike Wing.

Around 10 a.m., the unfortunate aircraft, which had the tail number 701, took off for a “recurrency/training trip.”

The plane was apparently seen descending to a field in Sitio Tabon, Barangay Del Rosario, Pilar, Bataan, where it ultimately crashed, at around 10:40 in the morning. While there were no reports of civilian casualties, two PAF pilots perished in the accident. Our SF-260TP fleet has been grounded while our aviation accident investigation team conducts a comprehensive examination at the scene,” she continued.

The PAF’s SF-260TP serves as a light assault combat aircraft and is a highly agile, fully aerobatic basic trainer.

It was employed during the siege of Marawi and subsequent PAF combat missions.

Close air support, combat air interdiction, aerial reconnaissance, persuasion flight, armed escort, maritime patrol, air cover, flare drop, forward air controller, and aerial demonstration are just a few of the tasks it is capable of.
