The city administration has so far given the local hog farmers stricken by African swine fever (ASF) about PHP3.5 million in financial aid.

The cash help is distinct from the family food packets the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) offered to the impacted hog raisers, according to Dr. Mario Arriola, chief of the city veterinarian office, who said this on Wednesday.

According to Arriola, the help was given through the local government’s indemnification program, the Department of Labor and Employment’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), and the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) programs.

According to Arriola, the city government has first given 920 culled pigs a PHP2,500 indemnity totaling PHP2.3 million.

253 of the 1,098 impacted hog raisers have received compensation, according to Arriola.

In addition, he claimed that the CSWDO’s AICS program gave PHP5,000 to each of the 136 impacted swine producers.

Additionally, 149 of the hog farmers received temporary employment through DOLE’s TUPAD program, receiving PHP3,510 in pay apiece for a total of PHP522,990 over a 10-day work period.

According to Arriola, assistance will last until all impacted hog farmers are helped.

Pork mortality in this area reached 4,655 as of last month, while those put to death numbered 1,122.
