As the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) brings the civil registry close to them in celebration of the 33rd Civil Registration Month this February, residents of remote areas, especially members of indigenous peoples (IPs) communities, stand to benefit.

Regional director of PSA-Mimaropa Leni Rioflorido stated that the organization “recognizes the broader effort needed to reach out to the indigenous peoples, who are in remote highlands and whose culture is not acclimated to technicalities like the civil registration.”

In addition to the mobile registration, the PSA will host a number of other events in keeping with the day’s theme, “PSA@10: Providing Efficient and Effective Civil Registration and Vital Statistics through Digital Transformation, “according to a statement sent by email on Tuesday night to the Philippine News Agency.

The month of February has been recognized as Civil Registration Month each year thanks to Proclamation No. 682, which was issued by Corazon C. Aquino on January 28, 1991.

Rioflorido also extended an invitation to unmarried couples to participate in “kasalang bayan,” or mass marriages, conducted by the local civil registrar offices.

She continued, “The PSA provides credentials to be able to wed solemnizing officers like pastors, priests, and ministers in addition to teaching them.

The local civil registry office, PSA province offices, and village officials will ride in a motorcade to start the celebration on February 6 from the PSA regional office in this city, according to the official.

Other events planned for the month-long celebration include the giving of lectures and training sessions, the distribution of information, education, and communication materials, a quiz competition for civil registration, and a contest for creating posters and slogans.
