In response to news of a group selling online services to Chinese nationals to have their names removed from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) blacklist in exchange for a high charge, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla promised fast action on Wednesday.

“We’ll take those steps one at a time. We won’t give up. We’ll take the necessary steps to clean up the system “Remulla told journalists.

Remulla was responding to information revealed by an anti-crime organization at a Senate Public Order and Dangerous Drugs Committee meeting on Tuesday that exposed reports about the new method including online offerings.

According to Ka Kuen Chua, chairperson of the Movement for Restoration of Peace and Order (MRPO), “we got reports of adverts claiming to lift immigration blacklist for a cost of PHP1 million to PHP5 million were circulating in Chinese social media platforms.”

Chua also cited allegations that police officers are guarding “dens of iniquity,” particularly those in Cavite and Pampanga.

“In addition, victims we have helped claimed that police officers protected them, but we haven’t verified the truth of their claims,” Chua said.

He continued by saying that occasionally, victims they had helped who had been eager to file cases later withdrew them.

“And it is asserted that the police or the prosecutors themselves prepared their affidavits of desistance,” he continued.

Authorities refuted the allegations.
