The Antique Electric Cooperative (Anteco) plans to electrify 23 sitios (sub-villages) in this province by the second quarter of 2023, which will help at least 480 isolated families.

In charge of Anteco, Jerose Mioten stated during a news conference on Friday that the National Electrification Administration is providing PHP100 million for the electrification program, which aims to electrify isolated barangays in the nine towns of Antique (NEA).

Tobias Fornier, Hamtic, San Jose de Buenavista, Sibalom, San Remigio, Belison, Patnongon, Culasi, and Sebaste are among the 23 sitios.

75 sitios in Antique, according to Mioten, are currently without electricity.

The sitios electrification program has had a significant influence on the community, especially over the last two years when face-to-face sessions were interrupted due to the coronavirus virus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Because their homes have electricity, she noted, “students from the outlying barangays were still able to attend their online classes.”

Because of the support from NEA, household beneficiaries can take advantage of free connection and processing fees, according to Engr. Neal Peter Veegas, manager of Anteco Technical Services Department.

In the press conference, he stated that the program will pay the typical cost of an electric connection, which is around PHP4,000 per household.

He stated that once the initiative is implemented by the second quarter of this year, they aim to complete the connections within 180 days.

In the province, the electrification initiative has already connected 1,370 families in 2021 and 1,390 in 2022.
