VP Sara exhorts local executives to carry out well-planned projects.
Each local leader has been advised by Vice President Sara Duterte to be cautious in their projects to achieve short- to long-term growth.
At the League of Municipalities of the Philippines’ general assembly on Tuesday, she made the claim in a speech to local officials.
Duterte, who was the mayor of Davao for nine years, provided a number of strategies to guarantee that local initiatives will continue even after a leader leaves office.
She stated, “As a former mayor, I am conscious of the weight of duty that comes with the chance to lead and drive our municipalities toward the road of progress and sustainable development.
Duterte identified tourism and peace and order as two of Davao’s assets under her reign.
“In terms of tourism, you’re available for pag-aaral. (With tourism, you need research.) Hindi po pwede na kung ano ‘yung gusto ninyo na maging tourist program ng inyong lugar ay pwede na siyang i-roll out. You can’t just implement your preferred tourism program in your location, she added.
According to Duterte, a feasibility study is essential to determining a locality’s strengths, including the community’s capacities and resources, as well as the implementation of the plan and cross-sectoral cooperation.
She used Davao City as an illustration of how the city has improved its status as a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination in the nation.
“Continuity is very crucial for a local government unit to ensure that its investment will not be wasted,” Duterte added. “Napakahalaga po ng continuity ng isang local government unit (LGU) para po hindi nasasayang ang inyong mga investments sa inyong tourism programs.”
She said, “I am hopeful that you will resolutely cooperate with other local chief executives in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao to tackle key issues faced by LGUs in the fields of peace and order, public health, environmental preservation, and local tourism, among others.
The MICE Conference (MICECON) 2023, the largest gathering of the nation’s MICE business, will be held in Davao City from March 1 to 3.
The conference provides a forum for discussing the emergence of the “Bleisure” sector, or the combination of business and pleasure travel.
At least 600 people are anticipated to attend the MICECON, which will begin concurrently with Araw ng Davao.
MICECON 2023 will be held by the Davao City Local Government Unit in cooperation with the Philippine Tourism Board and the Department of Tourism.
